Dear School Families,
We have worked diligently this summer to prepare for a safe return to school this fall! We understand that the 2020-2021 school year looks incredibly different, and that we all approach August 31st with a sense of excitement tempered by caution. We are grateful to each of you for your patience and partnership as we introduce new procedures, guidelines and measures designed to promote the safety and wellness of our teachers and students. As we have shared previously this summer, We Are Called in new ways, and as ambassadors of our Catholic faith, to serve one another during this time of pandemic, and to act with justice as we confront racism and advocate for safety and equality. This fall we are also called to err on the side of gratitude, to make sacrifices for the good of community, and to embrace a culture of collaboration that paves the way for a safe return to on-campus learning for our “new normal” over the coming years ahead. I urge us all to reflect on this year’s Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools theme, We Are Called, and consider the ways it calls us to action in protection and advancement of community.
Please navigate through each of the resource sections below to find links and information you’ll need as we begin the 2020-2021 school year at St. Francis Xavier School. Please note that back to school information specific to Early Childhood on the St. Joseph campus will follow under separate cover from the St. Joseph School office. We are eager to welcome our SFX Preschool students on the St. Joseph campus this fall as part of the St. Joseph Early Childhood family. We know that the thoughtful focus and direction of Amy Butterworth and Mia Montemurro will be a great gift to our youngest families!
We continue to wrap up implementation of comprehensive safety procedures designed to keep all students and teachers safe. Much of this work is already detailed in the Health and Safety section of sfx-school.org/reopening. Watch for several more important reopening updates to follow. I couldn’t be more grateful to the parent volunteers who have served in new and remarkable ways to ensure safety, health and wellness this fall.
We look forward to finding creative and innovative ways to build community this year in partnership with the HSO, led by Catherine Barton and Jo Anne Tagliamonte. I remain grateful to Father Watts, Joe D’Arco, and the SFX Office team for the ways they have dedicated themselves to our families this summer to ensure a safe reopening. Finally, I thank our teachers who lead our classrooms, guide our students, and join us in implementing safety and wellness measures across both campuses designed to keep every member of our community safe.
I ask that each of you make a point of reaching out to the newest members of our community over the coming weeks, and to set a welcoming and inclusive tone with all that you do. While hospitality may look different during a socially-distant fall, a friendly phone call and welcoming email remain simple yet powerful gestures that signal a sense of welcome and connectedness for those who join us this year.
I look forward to learning, growing and praying together during what will be an historic year for our parish and schools!
