Week of April 16 – 20
Welcome Back! We hope everyone had a great two week Spring Break! The stories, pictures and souvenirs that the kids brought in to share have been amazing! The kids all seemed to enjoy the time with family and friends, away from routine. I know coming back is rough, but we are now in the home stretch!
Starting on Tuesday, April 17th, all students in grades 3-8 at SFX will participate in Aspire Testing. Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep, eats a healthy breakfast and arrives at school no later than 8:15. All of these things will help ensure a smooth morning and calm third graders as we begin testing.
On Friday we completed our mini unit on animal classification. Students enjoyed the sorts we completed in class, the short video clips we and the colorful flip book they created to help them remember all the different characteristics of each of the six classifications. Next we will be moving onto animal adaptations.
We will soon begin our poetry unit, one of the most fun writing units in third grade. Students will have the opportunity to write all different types of poetry! This unit is loved by students because the rules are so flexible and free!
We have spent quite a bit of time discussing the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and why he did this. The big theme has been to love others as Jesus showed he loves us through his sacrifice. “He was good to those who were ungrateful. He was gentle to toward those who were cruel. Jesus was unselfish in his love. He tells us to love that way too.”
Please keep a close eye on the weather and dress your child appropriately for recess and P.E. classes. Students will be going outside everyday for recess and are expected to have appropriate clothing for the hot or cold temperatures. Students will also be having P.E. classes outside for the rest of the school year due to the construction.
