Throughout the school year, first grade students visit the library weekly and they checkout 5 books that they keep in their classrooms to have for reading during the school day. These books are a mix of picture books, beginning readers, and, as of this week, transitional chapter books-books with controlled vocabulary but more pages and fewer illustrations than beginning readers.
Starting this week, first grade students will bring one of their 5 library books home. The book will come home in a specially labeled plastic bag and may stay at home until the book is due the following week. Please help your child remember to put their library book bag in their school backpack the night before their weekly library visit. Mrs. Cobia’s class visits the library every Monday and Mrs. O’Keefe’s class visits every Friday. I have gone over with students my expectations about how they need to care for the book while it is at home. We are excited to give them this new responsibility.
