It was a busy week in first grade! The students enjoyed the warmer weather!
Religion: The students completed chapter 24 in their textbook, The Holy Spirit Helps the Church. The students had a lot to say in our discussion on the Holy Spirit! The students had a great discussion on personal safety with an emphasis on speaking up for oneself.
Literacy: The students worked on graphic organizers for their realistic fiction story. They enthusiastically began writing their stories! They read, met in small groups, competed word work, and wrote in their journals.
Math: The students completed an assessment on graphs and moved right into numbers to 120. This unit helps the students review previous learning with place value.
Science: The hands-on experiments are always exciting! The students were able to read and discuss items that sink or float. After making predictions students worked with some items and water to see if the items sank or floated. The most interesting item for everyone seemed to be dropping their own pencil in the water and watching it float! The students also complete an experiment about what dissolves in water. The experiment included salt, sand, baking soda, paper circles, sprinkles, and rice.
