It has been another week of outstanding learning in our classroom! I am seeing so much growth in all of the students and I hope you are, too!! We have continued to practice on our chrome books and becoming more independent. We even did a Zoom this week!! Next week, we will continue to use our chrome books and prepare ourselves for remote learning. Just a reminder, please bring a pack of large markers and a reusable bag by early next week.
This week, we learned about the Advent candles and started our celebration of the Christmas season. The students learned about the Hail Mary and how God chose Mary and Joseph to be the parents of Jesus. The students also learned about St. Nicholas from Mrs. Cobia and put out shoes to see if he visits our classroom. Update will come next week! This week, we have continued to practice for Mass. Our class will be leading Mass on Tuesday, December 8 so please tune in! The readers are doing an excellent job!!
This week, our writers worked hard to edit their small moment stories. We have been identifying when we should use capitals, periods, and how to write a good sentence. Next week, we will publish our books and share them with our families! Our writers are building so many skills in content, neatness, and creativity. In reading, we shared book recommendations with the class and with a partner. It was exciting to hear the students give a brief book summary, identify the type of book, and explain why the book was chosen. The students are becoming so independent with their book choices!! Our guided reading groups are continuing to work on sequencing activities in order to help build our retelling skills. In addition, the students are continuing to strengthen their word work with Words Their Way and sight words.
This week, we started Chapter 4 in our textbooks. The students are learning about numbers up to 20. They are learning about place value, the written words, and counting. Next week, we will be working on comparing numbers and using greater than and less than terminology when describing numbers. We will also take the Chapter 4 math assessment by Thursday of next week.
