First Graders attended the SFX all school Mass on Tuesday, we sat in our SFX communities. We read the story of creation from a children’s Bible. Our God designed a beautiful world for us. It took six days to form our earth and on the seventh day God rested. Every child made CREATION ON A STICK. The children can retell the story of creation using their stick project and read their book GOD GAVE US THE EARTH which accompanies their project, as well as learning a creation song. First Graders continue to be introduced to stories and books where kindness and empathy are shown. FRIENDSHAPE presented a dozen reasons friends are wonderful to have.
The concept of greater than, less than, and equal to were introduced through pictures, models, and words. We worked on solving word problems. Drawing pictures can be helpful in understanding word problems. The children practiced by: UNDERSTANDING – what do you know?, PLAN – where to start, SOLVE – draw a picture, and LOOK BACK – does your answer make sense? As the year progresses we will continue to use this practice, along with acting it out with models, and using a picture. Our class is practicing our facts on the Ipads with IXL
Our Kevin Henkes author study was concluded with reading CHESTER’S WAY ,JUIUS, BABY OF THE WORLD, and JESSICA , composing reading responses, and creating a new character for Kevin Henkes .Reviewing the vowels and their sounds began this week with the short a sound. A Mini Book and practice.s helped us remember the word families of short a. Quiet reading of SFX Library books is a part of our daily routine.
Following Andrew through his busy school day, helped the children answer the questions: ” What do you every morning at home? and what do you do each morning at school?” Every morning SFX First Graders start our day with a prayer and pledge to the flag.
