Thank you so much for such a fabulous second grade year! We will truly miss all of our second graders and hope they come back to visit us in the fall!
Below you will find some ways to include reading, writing, and math into your child’s summer.
Reading – READ, READ, READ! Any and all books, such as chapter books, picture books, graphic novels, magazines, comic strips, cookbooks, etc. are great ways to encourage your children to read this summer. They can read at the beach, read on the plane, read in bed at night, read in a shady spot in your yard – anywhere and everywhere!
Reading Resource Suggestions:
- Learning A-Z (Raz-Kids)
Writing – Bring a journal or notebook along with you on your travels this summer. Have your child make a list of things to pack in their suitcase, write about what adventures they will have on their journey, or write about what they did on their trip. Perhaps start a Pen Pal chain with their classmates or a close friend to practice letter writing skills!
Math – Practice 2nd grade skills we covered over the school year with IXL. Your child can practice their math facts (addition, subtraction & begin multiplication) with games, flashcards or XtraMath.
Math Resource Suggestions:
Of course, the point of summer is to relax and have fun! We hope they get plenty of time playing at the park, going to the beach, climbing trees and just being a kid! If there is down time or on a rainy day, hopefully these ideas can help encourage your child to keep up on reading, writing, and math over the long, summer break!
Have a wonderful, safe and relaxing summer! 🙂
