On Thursday, May 23rd, we are headed to the Wilmette Historical Museum on Ridge Road. We will be eating lunch in our classrooms at 11:30 and then walking over. We are hoping to return to school by 2:45, in time for dismissal. Please make sure your student wears their SFX uniform and good walking shoes. This will be a fun trip!
Walking Tour of East Wilmette Trip
On Friday, May 31st we will be taking a walking tour of east WIlmette to see and discuss many of the historical sites we have been learning about in class. Please make sure to sign and return the green permission slip that has already gone home for this trip. We will need two chaperones from each homeroom to walk with us, as well as read from a script about each specific site. If it rains on the date of the trip, we will cancel and do the walking tour from our classroom on Google Maps.
Wilmette History Timeline
On this past Wednesday and Thursday each student presented their piece of the WIlmette timeline. Our timeline ranges from the ice age to now. Students learned about the first settlers, how Wilmette got its name, and that Wilmette was once known as “Pickle Town”.
Mrs. Pritchard led us through an app on the iPads called Foldify. Over the next few weeks, students will be printing and folding 3-D shapes to re-create buildings from Wilmette’s past.
This past week students published their final piece of writing for third grade, an opinion piece. We had students trying to persuade an audience to know, do, or believe something they felt strongly about. Some topics that were developed into full pieces included…
- No Homework
- No Uniforms
- Why Notre Dame is the best athletic school
- Students should have a fall break
Students should have brought home a set of multiplication flash cards this past week. Please challenge your child to practice their basic math facts (+,-, x, / ) all summer for speed and accuracy. You can easily google online games, download a fun app or two, or even play one of these games using a deck of cards or dice… https://www.granby.k12.ct.us/uploaded/faculty/wyzika/Dice_and_Card_Games_to_Practice_Math_Facts.pdf
Every Thursday during the month of May, we will be praying the Rosary together as a class. Your child is welcome to bring a Rosary from home to pray with during this special time.
