On Monday students had an opportunity to see cartoonist, author, and illustrator, Nathan Hale. Mr. Hale told us all a very interesting, and true, story about the Louisiana Purchase. Then during 7th period a few select 3rd graders were able to attend his workshop and learn even more about how he illustrates! Thank you to Mrs. Sawyer for always bringing in such interesting and captivating guest speakers!
The posters looked great! The kids really enjoyed our “Poster Walk”, where children had an opportunity to see each other’s work and learn all about different climates. It was amazing to see so many different climates from Chicago. Students enjoyed learning about other seasons like wet, dry, monsoon or rainy. After the presentations, the students chose a place they would like to visit based off the posters. We had a lot of kids that wanted to head to Honolulu or Moscow, such extreme opposites.
This week Mrs. Pritchard led us through an interesting activity that involved teamwork and creativity. Each group had to come up with unconventional uses for an everyday item and then try to “sell” that idea to their classmates. We had a spoon turned head scratcher, a CD turned to frisbee, bubble wrap turned into a comfy arm rest, nail polish turned glue and a plastic cup turned into a popsicle drip catcher. Such fun and creative ideas!
Wilmette Historical Museum Trip
Permission Slips will be handed out this upcoming week for our field trip on Thursday, May 23rd. We will be walking from SFX to the Wilmette Historical Museum on Ridge Road. During this trip we will learn more about the history of Wilmette and see some artifacts that we have been discussing in class. We will be eating lunch in our classrooms at 11:30 and then heading over. We will need two chaperones from each homeroom to help chaperone this trip. We are asking chaperones to meet us at SFX at 12:00 and walk with us to the museum. We will need chaperones to assist with crossing streets and keeping the kiddos on the sidewalks. We will also need you to help us walk back to SFX. We are hoping to return to school by 2:45, in time for dismissal.
We handed out rulers for students to use for both the math measurement unit and weather project. If you still have a SFX ruler at home, please send it back to school with your student. Thank You!
Every Thursday during the month of May, we will be praying the Rosary together as a class. Your child is welcome to bring Rosary from home to pray with during this special time.
