In math we are continuing our unit on measurement, learning the difference between the customary system and the metric system. As we prepare for the upcoming Aspire testing, we will also take a day to cover quadrilaterals and do some review of word problems. Our next big unit will be fractions.
In science we are currently working on two mini units, magnets (taught by Ms. Miller) and the life cycle of plants. We will also start work on animal classifications and adaptations. Hopefully your child has mentioned dissecting a lima bean seed or the plants we have growing in the classroom.
As we celebrate the season of lent we have been having a lot of conversations within the classroom about right and wrong. We also attended Reconciliation with Father Rodlin and Father Sheridan on Wednesday and Stations of the Cross weekly.
All students should be reading and practicing math facts every night. Every night students can complete the assignment from their small group reading teacher or read whatever they want. The important thing is that kids are reading DAILY to work on fluency and comprehension. Ask your child about what they are reading, have them summarize it or give you a retelling. Students also need to practice math facts for speed and accuracy. Students can do flash cards or google a fun game online.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Please sign up to attend conferences, we would love to meet with you and discuss your child’s progress. If you have something specific that you would liketo discuss, please email your teacher. With only 12 minutes, our time will go fast and we would love to have productive conversations.
Coats and Winter Gear
The weather is still doing its own thing. Please check the forecast daily and send your child with proper clothing for recess (coats, hats, scarves and gloves). Yes the calendar will soon mark the beginning of spring, but that means nothing to Jack Frost. Light jackets often are not enough to keep your child warm for the 20 minutes outside.
National Louis Permission Slip
Another permission slip has come home that needs to be signed for our student teacher, Molly Miller. Ms. Miller needs this specific permission slip signed to be able to record lessons within the classroom and share them with her professors. Thank you to those have already returned the slips.
