This week we began our character studies unit during reading. We will be reading and analyzing Because of Winn Dixie by Katie DiCamillo as a whole group. When your child reads at home you can help reiterate these lessons by asking the following types of questions.
- What are some personality traits the main character possesses?
- Can you name some secondary characters and their role in the story?
- Make a prediction of what might happen next and support it using evidence from the text.
- What are some similarities and some differences amongst your characters?
- What lesson did your character learn and how can you relate that to your own life?
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Mass on Sunday at 9:30! Remember, if your student wears their uniform and come see their homeroom teacher, they will receive a dress down pass. We will have the government projects, multiplication flowers, and our snow globe stories on display during open house. Stop by and check them out!
If you are a planner, I know you may be looking ahead to Valentine’s Day. In third grade this year we will be having a small, teacher led, celebration within our classrooms. Students will have the opportunity to exchange Valentine’s within their homerooms. If your child would like to bring in Valentine’s for both homerooms, they are welcome to do so. We do ask that your child either bring in Valentine’s for the entire class, everyone in both classes, or no one. We will send home a paper copy of the class lists next week. Thank you for understanding.
We are so excited to play in the snow! Even though the temperatures dropped at the end of the week, we had a few fun days on a snow covered field! Remember to keep bringing your boots, hats, gloves, and snow pants! Wearing our boots to school will also help keep our school looking nice (especially the new floors!) and protect our gym shoes from salt. Students may leave their gym shoes in their lockers to cut down on the number of items to carry back and forth.
This week Mrs. Pritchard led us in making origami dogs. This activity helps with not only building fine motor skills, but strengthening our hand muscles for cursive handwriting and sharpening our listening skills.
