Best Recess EVER!
We have a recipe brewing for the best recess ever next week. We are suppose to get several inches of snow this weekend and third grade has the field next week for recess. The only two things that could ruin this “perfect storm” is lack of proper clothing and too cold temps. So, please make sure your child has snow boots, snow pants, a winter coat, gloves suited for playing in the snow, and a hat for recess next week. Then we cross our fingers that it stays warm enough for outdoor recess.
This week we made Waldorf Flowers in EPIC math with Mrs. Pritchard. We used these flowers to help us learn and practice our multiplication facts. We will have our flowers on display during Open House following Mass on Sunday, January 27th. Stop by and smell the MULTIPLICATION flowers.
All students will be taking their chapter 8, multiplication test next Wednesday, January 23rd. A review homework assignment will go home Tuesday night to help students prepare for the test. We will then begin chapter 9 (Multiplication Facts and Patterns) on Thursday. In chapter 9, we will continue to work on more facts by learning patterns and tricks to to help us memorize these facts for speed and accuracy.
In writing we are finishing up our snow globe fictional narrative pieces. Students have written some great stories set in a snow globe. We have worked on characters, writing a problem and satisfactory solution, leads, transitions, details as well as proper grammar skills. These stories will also be on display during Open House if you’d like to sneak a peek.
Over the past weeks we have been using different resources to learn how fossils formed and what clues they give us to the past. We will soon be ending this mini unit by discussing how these fossils tell us what adaptations specific dinosaurs had to survive in their environment.
