On Monday night students will be bringing home a chapter 9 review to complete for homework. This assignment will help prepare them for the chapter 9 math test on Tuesday. (We understand that this is now the night of Crusaders Tonight. We will allow students some time in class to complete this assignment, but can’t promise they will finish the entire thing.) This test will cover multiplication, the associative property (multiplying 3 numbers), and multi-step problems. On Thursday, we will begin division. To teach division we will focus heavily on the relationship between multiplication and division through fact families and repeated subtraction.
This week we continued with our economics unit and began learning about goods and services through a class discussion and a partner sort. We will continue this next week by making class collages. Next week we will also learn the difference between natural and human resources through two great picture books, The Giving Tree and Little Nino’s Pizzeria.
This past week your student brought home a permission slip for our next Poetry Pals adventure. On Wednesday, February 13th, we will be traveling to The Islamic Foundation School in Villa Park. We will leave SFX by 8:30 and return around 1:45. On this day we are asking for students to bring a lunch from home to enjoy at ISF. When packing this lunch please make sure that it is both nut and pork free. For this session Poetry Pals has suggested that we dress comfortably. We are asking all SFX students to wear their blue ribbon shirts with comfortable bottoms. This trip allows us to take as many chaperones as we’d like. If you would like to attend with us, please just indicate that on the bottom of the permission slip.
This year we will be having a small, teacher led, celebration within our classrooms. Students will have the opportunity to exchange Valentine’s within their homerooms. Or, if your child would like to bring in Valentine’s for both homerooms, they are welcome to do so. Children can bring their Valentine’s in on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14th. We do ask that your child either bring in Valentine’s for the entire class, everyone in both classes, or no one. A paper copy of the class lists went home last week.
Please remember to check the forecast daily when sending your child to school. We love going outside for recess to burn off extra energy, but the weather has been all over the place. Make sure your child has appropriate clothes for temperatures around 11:30 each day. Since we had such cold temps this week, we did some Go Noodle during indoor recess.
