- A warm welcome to SFX School to our new friend in 4G, Mady!!!
We continue our work in Math in Focus, Chapter 3: Fractions and Mixed Numbers. We are also reviewing multi-digit multiplication, long division, equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, mixed numbers, and improper fractions. *Please continue to practice multiplication AND division flash cards at home to increase knowledge and speed of basic fact fluency.
We have started our first Science Unit: The Solar System. This means we have paused Social Studies for now. The students have been really excited to learn about the Sun, the planets, and other objects that make up our Solar System. Ask your child if they can explain to you the 4 reasons why Pluto is now classified as a dwarf planet!
We have been busy in Writing! The students have worked hard over a sustained period of time to develop a narrative story which includes a “hook” beginning, a middle with a problem, an ending with a solution, dialogue, descriptive language, and interesting characters. Students are so proud of their efforts, and I am proud of them too!
Reading groups have been really enjoyable. We are reading some great books. Students are sometimes bringing home their small group books to read at home. This may be counted as their 20 minutes for the night. Please remind students to “log” their reading. I have been doing Friday check ins of their reading logs and I cannot give them the credit they may have earned if they do not have it recorded in their log.
Grammar has focussed on changing singular nouns into plural nouns using all of the rules in our English language and also the exceptions to the rules. It can be a bit tricky. It just takes thought, practice, and careful attention to the details.
We are moving into Chapter 6: Jesus Invites Us to Receive God’s Mercy. We have been spending time in prayer with God asking him to help guide us through our day. At this time of Thanksgiving, we have also reflected on the many things we are grateful for in our lives. The students really have willing hearts to strengthen their relationships with our Lord.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I am so thankful for SFX School in my life!
