We had another fun week learning about Farms.
Important Dates and Reminders
Monday September 23rd: Lock Down drill 10:00 am. We will practice what we will do in our classroom in the event of a lockdown in our school. We will talk to the students about hiding in our classroom and being quiet during this drill. Be assured that we will make this practice session as reassuring as possible for everyone..
Wednesday October 2nd: 1:45 Dismissal – Faculty Professional Development
Monday October 14th: No School – Columbus Day
As the weather gets chilly, please send your child to school with a jacket or sweatshirt. We will head outside to play every morning.
Theme of the Week and Activities
At our Craft Center, we made horses and chickens for our farm scene. Check them out in the hallway outside our JK classrooms.
At our Literacy Center, we worked on our class book, “If I lived on a Farm…”

At our Science Center, we learned about all of the different food that is grown on a farm.
We learned about how many of the things we eat and drink begin on a farm.
We learned about the many things a farmer does to keep a farm running.
At our Writing Center, we practiced writing our first names. Start at the top, all capital letters.
At our Sensory Center, we sifted through popcorn kernels and set up scenes with with farm animals. We strengthened our hands while squeezing and molding play dough.
At our Dramatic Play Center, we had a blast pretending in our Farmer’s Market.
We are learning to take turns and how to set the scene so we can all try different roles.
In Religion, we are practicing the sign of the cross and learning The Hail Mary Prayer.
We enjoyed many stories about animals and farm life. A few favorites were: “Summer Supper ”by Rubin Pfeffer and Mike Austin; “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” by Philip C. Stead, Illustrated by Erin Stead; “Farm Animals True or False” by, Melvin and Gilda Berger and “Chicken Talk” by Patricia MacLachlan, Illustrated by Jarrett J. Krosoczka
We climbed, slid, jumped and dug in the sand on the Tot-Lot.
We ran and played ball on the field.
We sang and danced in Music with Mrs. Chada.
We listened to stories in Library with Mrs. dos Santos.
