Theme of the Week and Activities
At our Craft Center, we made bat hats. We had great fun wearing them and dancing around the room to our favorite Halloween song, “Black Bat Farm.”
At our Math Center, we counted many pumpkin seeds and spiders.
At our Writing Center, we learned to write the number “1,” big line down. We counted many single objects around school.
At our Science Center, we made erupting volcano pumpkins. We learned that by mixing vinegar, baking soda, and food coloring we could cause a chemical reaction. It was awesome to see the pumpkin volcanos erupt before our eyes.
At our sensory Center, we squeezed and rolled pumpkin-spice play dough. We sifted through rice to find Halloween treasures. We carved our pumpkin into a happy Jack-O-Lantern. We described the insides as gooey, slippery, slimy and cold. We used the pumpkin goop to make muffins, cakes and pies.
At our Literacy Center, we read some very entertaining Halloween books. Our favorites were: “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, “There’s a Monster in Your Book” by Tom Fletcher and Greg Abbott, and “Shivery Shades of Halloween” by Mary McKenna Siddals and Jimmy Pickering.
In Religion, we learned that Saints were people who lived their lives by following Jesus’ teachings. We celebrated the Saints on November 1st, All Saints Day.
On Thursday we had a blast wearing our costumes and marching in the school parade. We had a fun celebration in our classroom! Thank you to the Sheedy and Roselle families for providing a fun craft and yummy treats.
We had fun running and playing on the field and in the gym. On rainy days we practiced our dance moves with a dance party. We brought out some great moves dancing to “Monster Mash.”
