3/20: March Birthday Dress Down Day
3/25-3/29: NO SCHOOL – Spring Break!
A Week in Review:
We have launched our new “Becoming Avid Readers” unit. In this unit, you can anticipate our students to grow their love for reading through reading “playdates.” We will work on setting reading goals, expressing our reactions to books, and recording our thinking about plot outcomes. We will work closely with both non-fiction texts and poetry throughout this unit.
We are working hard to write how-to books that teach our readers how to do and make things that we are experts at! We have created stories about doing somersaults, making tacos, singing the ABC’s and so much more! This writing is helping us to grow our vocabulary, and get specific, detailed sentences and pictures on each page.
In the coming weeks our students will dive into a measurement unit while continuing to practice the composition and decomposition of numbers 1-20. Kindergarten measurement focuses on “non-standard” units of measurement, which asks our students to measure using objects such as paperclips, unit cubes and many more items to make their work meaningful and engaging!
We will participate in a special Stations of the Cross activity with Father Watts in the coming week! We look forward to hearing his developmentally appropriate spin on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
We will begin to take a look at the changing weather that spring brings, and will use the seasonal change as a catalyst for our “weather watcher” unit where we will explore typical and extreme weather patterns.
