A Week in Review:
Reading Workshop:
This past week we transitioned from reading only non-fiction books to reading old favorite storybooks. Readers can turn any storybook into an old favorite by reading it again and again! We are working look at, remember and read all of the familiar pages in books like, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” “Mrs. Wishy Washy,” and “The Carrot Seed.”
We invite you to select a favorite storybook from your home, and read it again and again with your child until he/she remembers most of the words. Then, feel free to send this book into class so your child can read it at school too!
Writing Workshop:
We are using “stretchy” spelling techniques to catch all the sounds we hear in the words we want to write in our teaching books. We are moving from writing 1-page stories to stories spanning 2-3 pages. Your kiddos are learning that being a brave writer doesn’t mean spelling/drawing perfectly, but instead means trying our very best to get words and pictures on every page.
Math:
This coming week we will wrap up our first math chapter and move into Chapter 2 which covers numbers 6-10. We’ve worked hard to learn number shapes, practice 1-1 correspondence counting, and work collaboratively in our play-based math centers.
Religion:
The theme of this week’s religion lesson was “Welcomes are Good.” We discussed how Jesus welcomes all children to learn from him and how we can be welcoming in our lives to continue to spread the word of God.
