A Week in Review:
Reading Workshop: We are having a blast hosting “reading playdates” during reading workshop. These playdates include activities like playing school, playing reading games, and playing pretend where we act out the stories we are reading with our partners. If we want our students to become avid readers, we need to include reading in our work as well as in our play!
Writing Workshop: This week we continued to develop our how-to writing work by using a “writing rubric” to set goals. These goals might include, “writing details on each page,” “including an ending page,” or “putting different things on each page.” These goals help us to notice what we are already good at and what we can improve upon!
Math: We are working to use non-standard units of measurement to measure the length and height of all the things within our classroom and school! These materials include paper clips, popsicle sticks, strings and more. In the coming weeks, we will continue our measurement unit by working with capacity as well as weight.
Religion: This week we toured parts of the church to gain a better understanding of some of the blessed materials and spaced that are used and visited during mass time. We look forward to meeting with Father Watts this week to discuss the Stations of the Cross in a child-appropriate way!
Social/Emotional: We are working with Ms. Egan to name and describe various emotions that we may feel or notice others feeling.
Science: We are working as weather watchers to describe the seasonal weather changes we are experiencing. We know there are 4 ways to describe weather, including wet or dry, windy or calm, temperature (hot, cold, mild) and based on cloud coverage. We look forward to studying severe weather patterns and will work with Mrs. Pritchard in the Maker Space on some weather-related STEAM work!
3 Piggy Opera: Our students are preparing for the 3 Piggy Opera performance! We invite all kindergarten families to join us on WEDNESDAY, May 1st at 10AM in the gym for our show. SFX siblings will sit with their homerooms. Please contact us with any questions!
Mrs. Dwyer: We welcome Ms. Maeve Donahue to the SFX Kindergarten team, as Mrs. Dwyer will be out for the remainder of the year due to ankle replacement surgery. She has previously worked with both kindergarten classrooms and is eager to continue to build relationships with all of our kindergarten kiddos!
