What a great week we have had so far!
On Monday, we were so lucky to have New York Times bestselling author Nathan Hale spend the day at the school. He spoke with our 3rd-8th grade students, had lunch with our Battle of the Books team, had lunch with our 6th-8th grade Caudill Challenge team, and then conducted two drawing workshops with a select group of students in the art room. Much thanks to all who contribute to the Fund the Need fund, which made this event possible. We are blessed to have such wonderful support of author visits. Students have been busy talking about how they would like Mr. Hale to spend every day at the school. If your child would like to see Mr. Hale again while he is still in the area, he is giving a presentation at the Highland Park Public Library on Tuesday, May 7. Registration for the event is encouraged. Mr. Hale promises that his presentation next Tuesday night will be different than his SFX presentations.
On Tuesday, two wonderful Youth Services librarians from the Skokie Public Library presented their United States Game Show for our 4th grade students, who are busy learning all about the states. One student could be heard saying, “Wow it’s a game show and we are learning such cool state facts while having fun!”
Just a reminder, Wednesday, May 1 is the last day for our 3rd-5th grade students to turn in their Bluestem Reading Challenge logs. Students who complete the challenge will get to participate in a special party in the library in June.
As always, please now I am here to support our students and our families so don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you need help finding good books for your children. Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for our upcoming book fair starting Wednesday, May 29. There will be many great titles for our students to read this summer.
