It’s hard to believe it is June! What a wonderful year I have had with all of our SFX students! They are such book enthusiasts and a delight to shepherd through the world of literacy.
It was so exciting to end our year with an amazing author visit with Liesl Shurtliff. She enthralled our 3rd-5th grade students and had them perform a readers theater of Snow White. Liesl even made time to celebrate with our 4th-6th grade Battle of the Books team at their ice cream party, which was held following her presentation. Many thanks to the Book Stall for arranging her visit!
Earlier this year, we were given the amazing opportunity to host Andrew Clements, a New York Times bestselling children’s author. When he was here, he left a special package for us to open when the SFX students who had finished reading his book, The Loser’s Club, were gathered together. We met up this week to open the package and were thrilled to discover he had made a “bookordion” for us. We are excited to have this memento and it will be on display in the library next year. Please stop by and take a peek!
Though school is out for the summer, reading continues. Please see the special summer reading email that was sent out detailing our wonderful Tower of Books Challenge for JK-4th grade and the accompanying Middle School Reading Challenge for our 5th-8th grade students.
I wish to thank everyone who shopped our two book fairs this year. I am grateful to the book fair chairs and their many volunteers who worked tirelessly to help raise money toward the purchase of books for our library collection. The students and I can’t wait to move into the new library space sometime this upcoming school year where we will have space for all those new books. This year, our 5th grade students participated in a library design project during their scheduled time in the library. What whimsical and creative ideas they presented! My personal favorite was the secret passageway entrance into the new library. Such fun!
I wish you all an amazing, book-filled summer and I look forward to seeing you in August.
