2018 has been an amazing year at St. Francis for a number of reasons—including the physical transformation of our Wilmette campus. In March, we bid farewell to the gym to make way for a new, more efficient building. Over the past 9 months, our Bulley & Andrews construction team has been working tirelessly to erect a multipurpose facility to benefit both parish and PREP/school communities. The new building houses a larger gym with bleachers and a dividing curtain, a dedicated cafeteria and new kitchen, an administrative suite including a nurse’s office, resource rooms for meeting and collaboration, four new classrooms including a new science lab, a library, an Early Childhood Learning center, and a maker space. An elevator provides accessibility to both levels and a new, secure entrance invites visitors into a sweeping, sun-filled atrium space perfect for gatherings and conversation. Of particular note, this SFX project was the largest one greenlighted by the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2018 and a true sign of the vibrance of our thriving learning community.

We are pleased to share that construction wrapped over the last days of December and that final finishes are underway through the month of January. Students returned to SFX on Monday, January 7th entering through our new main entrance, and were treated to an all school assembly in the new gym led by Loyola University Basketball Coach Porter Moser. Coach Moser spoke with our students about the importance of respect, creating a culture of care and concern, and playing hard and fair in all that we do. He reminded students that we are all ambassadors of St. Francis and of our responsibility to represent our school well.
The fundraising successes behind this Faith in Action campaign underscore the support of our community for this project. All but roughly $400,000 of a total $9 million has been raised to date. You can learn more about fundraising progress and how you can help close the remaining gap by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
We can’t wait for you to visit us and take a peek at our new spaces! Please join St. Francis Xavier Parish when we officially welcome our community to tour our new building on Thursday, January 24th from 6-8pm. All are welcome! SFX School will also host its annual Open House as a kick off to Catholic Schools Week on Sunday, January 27th from 10:30am to 12:30pm (following 9:30am mass in the church), when teachers will be on hand across all classrooms to share news and information about curriculum and class activities.
