We wish our SFX students long days of exploration, fun, sunshine and adventure during these summer months ahead. Please refer to the links below for a selection of optional, enriching summer reading resources for all Crusaders, as well as required reading assignments for rising Middle School students.
We are happy to extend the Reading Without Walls Summer Reading Challenge again this year, inspired by former National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature, Gene Luen Yang. SFX students are invited to complete their reading activities over the summer using this Summer Reading Bingo Sheet. Children who achieve “Bingo” (five across, down, or diagonal) should bring completed sheets to me when they return to school in August for a Chipotle Reading Reward. Students who complete all the items on the bingo board will also win a dress down day, in addition to a Chipotle Reading Reward! Incoming K-8 students who complete a summer reading club through their public library are invited to bring in their certificates of completion at the start of school year to share with Mrs. Sawyer.
During the 2019-2020 school year, 6th-8th grade students will be invited to participate in a Caudill Reading Challenge. Students interested in getting a jump on these titles are invited to download this list and incorporate Caudill books into their summer reading repertoire. Each student who reads 15 of the 20 nominees will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to Chuck Wagon.
3rd-5th grade students are invited to read the 2019 Bluestem nominated titles (students looking for some fun summer reads are invited to dig into these books this summer). 3rd-5th graders who read every title on this 2020 Bluestem Challenge List will be invited to a pizza party in the library with Mrs. Sawyer at the end of the coming school year.
